Temple Nights & Curated Events – A new party culture is emerging

Insomnia Nov 4, 2026 Club News From temple parties and Conscious Kink to a new generation of sensual events at Berlin’s Insomnia.

Things are happening in the sex-positive scene. Alongside traditional swingers’ parties, fetish events and erotic club nights, a new culture of sensual encounters is emerging. It combines bodywork, tantra, mindful touch and playful eroticism with an unusual party concept: Experience it together first, then decide for yourself.

In Berlin, this has now given rise to a vibrant community. The Telegram channel Temples of Berlin alone connects thousands of interested people and provides information on temple nights, Conscious Touch workshops, breathwork, Ecstatic Dance, kink experiments and sensual encounter formats.

And Berlin is by no means alone. In Vienna, Barcelona and across Europe, events are springing up that focus on body awareness, intimacy and sexual self-determination.

From Tantra and bodywork to temple parties

The roots of this movement stretch back, amongst other things, to the Californian self-awareness culture of the 1960s. The Human Potential Movement, Western neo-Tantra, body-oriented therapy and, later, the sex-positive community have all contributed different influences.

Today, these influences blend together to form a diverse scene. Some events have a spiritual flavour, whilst others are playful, erotic, queer or decidedly kinky.

What many of them have in common is a particular concept: a guided section featuring ice-breaker exercises, movement, breathwork, touch and mindful communication first creates a shared atmosphere. This is followed by ‘Free Flow’ – the time during which participants themselves decide what they would like to experience.

Whether it’s conversation, cuddling, massages, flirting, BDSM or sexual encounters: everything is allowed, nothing is compulsory.

Not a swingers’ party with breathing exercises

The difference from a traditional swingers’ party lies less in what happens at the end, and more in how the evening begins.

At a swingers’ party, the possibility of sexual encounters is usually the main focus right from the start. Guests find each other on their own, and the sexual nature of the event is already part of the expectation.

At guided encounter parties, on the other hand, the experience begins as a shared journey. You get to know one another through exercises, discover closeness without immediate pressure to perform, and learn just how varied intimacy can be.

This isn’t about there being less eroticism. On the contrary: a deep gaze, a conscious touch or a playful shift in power can give rise to a unique kind of erotic tension.

Sex is a possibility, but not the goal by which a successful evening must be measured.

A scene discovers new spaces

In Berlin, initiatives such as Sensuality Arts also offer a variety of ‘temple’ formats – ranging from mindful touch and sensual dance journeys to open spaces for erotic encounters.

The spectrum ranges from gentle cosy evenings to intense ‘Conscious Kink’ experiences. Not every ‘Tempel’ party is sexually oriented, and not every one incorporates Tantra. It is precisely this diversity that makes the scene so interesting.

Insomnia is also breaking new ground

At Berlin’s Insomnia, we are embracing this trend and combining it with our many years of experience in sex-positive club culture.

With Slowly Melting, SIXᵗʰ – Turn on Your Senses, Kinky Cuddling, 4 Elements and QUEENDOM, we’re creating different event formats, all of which follow a similar principle: first, a guided shared experience, followed by space for free encounters.

At SIXᵗʰ, the focus is on the senses. Slowly Melting invites you to let closeness develop slowly. Kinky Cuddling combines touch and a sense of security with the opportunity to discover the erotic side of cuddling too.

QUEENDOM, which I developed together with Fräulein Schmitt, takes a different approach: Here, conscious encounters, female leadership, devotion and BDSM come together to create a playful ‘Conscious Kink’ experience.

Each of these formats has its own character. What they have in common is that guests aren’t simply attending a party, but are actively becoming part of a shared experience.

The future is sensual – and self-determined

Perhaps this new party culture is also a response to the times we live in. Whilst digital connections are becoming ever faster and more casual, there appears to be a growing interest in genuine encounters, conscious touch and shared intimacy.

This is not about replacing traditional swingers’ or fetish parties. Rather, these new formats broaden the spectrum of sex-positive culture.

They create space for people who are curious, want to explore new experiences, or wish to experience eroticism beyond their usual expectations.

Because perhaps the most exciting erotic encounter doesn’t begin with sex, but with us truly noticing one another.
